Fix for wrong time on iPhone and Apple TV

The last week or so, we have been having issues with our phones displaying the incorrect time. This has only happened when we are on our home network (we use Time Warner for internet) and it has also happened with our Apple TV. For some reason, when the Apple TV doesn’t know what time it is, nothing on it works and none of the apps are visible. Since it is has only happened at home, my theory is that Time Warner is blocking access to time.apple.com at some time for some reason, but I don’t know that for sure. Here is how we have fixed it.

Fix for incorrect time on iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click General.
  3. Scroll down to Date & Time.
  4. Toggle “Set Automatically” to “Off”.
  5. Wait a moment.
  6. Toggle “Set Automatically” back to “On”.
  7. You should now see the correct time displayed.

Fix for missing apps on Apple TV:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click General.
  3. Click Time Zone.
  4. Click “Set Automatically” to change to “Off”.
  5. Wait a moment.
  6. Click “Set Automatically” to change back to “On”.
  7. Go back to the home screen and the features should be restored.

Getting the kids to bed on time requires coordination and precision equivalent to a space launch. Especially now that all three kids sleep in the same room (for the first half of the night), there are milestones like brushing of teeth and singing of songs that need to be hit on time with very little room for error. 

Tonight, I was worried we were getting behind pace and I asked Ben to read me the numbers from the microwave as I was preoccupied with Landon in the living room. I nearly busted a gut when he shouted back:

“1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…9″

Smart aleck!
